Properly functioning labs use air flow monitors. These monitors are available as vane anemometers, hot-wire anemometers, balometers and air capture hoods, and manometers. The best choice of air flow monitors for many HVAC applications is vane anemometers. These meters measure air velocity, volume, and temperature and are designed with an integral vane for up-close measurements. Or, they may have a vane attached by a cord. Those models with a cord make it easier to obtain readings in difficult-to-reach applications. Fluke® 922 Air Flow/Digital Manometer For more sensitive and more accurate measurements in low flow applications, hot-wire anemometers are better than vane anemometers. The small probes on hot-wire anemometers can measure air flow or air velocity, air volume, and temperature in spaces that are difficult to access. For balancing HVAC systems, balometers are ideal.
