Troubleshooting Gas Mass Flowmeters
Gas mass flowmetersonly work with dry gasses. Normally the gasses are pure as well. If the gas contains too much moisture, an errant reading will occur. In this case a gas dryer is needed.
What else may be happening when your gas mass flowmeter is not operating properly? Here are some possibilities:
Problem: The reading is too high
Solution: Known as “swamping,” this happens when the flow exceeds 10% beyond the maximum-rated capacity. Lower the flow and shut system down completely to restore performance.
Problem: No display/power
Solutions: Check to make sure all cables are connected correctly and the power supply has been correctly selected according to requirements. When several meters are used on a power supply, an appropriate current rating should be selected. Possibly check for a blown fuse.
Problem: Incorrect reading
Solutions:
- Check for any leaks in the installation plumbing.
- Ensure the connector pinouts match properly. When interchanging with other manufacturers' equipment, cables and connectors must be carefully wired for correct pin configurations.
- In case of moisture, allow moisture to dry out prior to continuing to use. Verify that the pressure differential across the instrument is sufficient.
- Clean/flush filter
- Adjust valve if required.
