Stretching GC Limits with a True Six-Channel Solution for the Analysis
of Impurities in Ethylene
A high purity ethylene is used in certain manufacturing processes,
like polymer production. Trace amounts of certain hydrocarbons or
other gases, like oxygen, can have deleterious effects on these
processes. To fully characterize ethylene impurities, a GC with more
than three channels is needed. In this custom solution, we stretch GC
limits by coupling two Varian 450-GCs and thus, achieving a
six-channel GC with hydrogen, nitrogen/oxygen, carbon monoxide/ carbon
dioxide, light hydrocarbon, oxygenates and sulfur. The analyzer is
fully automated for high throughput and trouble-free operation, and it
is factory tuned and tested.

Bioanalyses: Methanol vs. Acetonitrile
With the recent shortage of acetonitrile, laboratories look to other
precipitation solvents for their liquid chromatography/mass
spectrometry (LC/MS) bioanalyses. In this study, sample preparation
methods using Varian CaptivaTM NDLipids products with both methanol
and acetonitrile are presented. As you will see, methanol is an
excellent replacement for acetonitrile, providing even better
interference removal.

Accurate Analysis of Proteins Using SEC and Absolute Weight Light Scattering
Albumins are a class of globular proteins found in animal tissue,
blood plasma, bacteria and plants, and include many important proteins
with key functions in the body. The ProSECTM 300S column simplifies
albumin analysis by size exclusion chromatography (SEC). A single
ProSEC 300S column resolves monomer, dimer and trimer peaks for a
series of globular albumin proteins and indicates the aggregation of
these species, an important solution property that affects the
