MELATONINA

Melatonin is a natural hormone present in virtually all animals. In
humans, it is produced by the pineal gland located at the base of the
brain. Melatonin appears to impact the body in three ways: It helps to
regulate the body's biological clock; it may have a role in our immune
system; it has been reported to exert antioxidant effects.

This hormone is produced by the pineal gland; a pea sized organ buried
deep inside the brain. Since its discovery in 1958, melatonin has
been studied intensively. It has been shown that light affects the
secretion of melatonin and levels of melatonin rise and fall each day.
As darkness falls the level of melatonin rises, in the morning, the
level falls. This has led to the most popular use of melatonin as
both a sleep aid and an antidote to jet-lag.
