AnapnoGuard Automatically Keeps Endotracheal Tube Cuffs at Right Pressure: Now FDA Cleared
Hospitech Ltd., an Israeli firm, won FDA clearance for a system that automatically adjusts the pressure of endotracheal tube cuffs. Too much inflation can cause ischemic injury to the trachea, while insufficient pressure lets subglottic secretions flow into the lungs, a major cause of ventilator associated pneumonia.
The AnapnoGuard uses an integrated sensor to measure the CO2 above the cuff, recognizing when leakage is occurring around the cuff and automatically adjusting its inflation. Additionally, the system performs automated rinsing and evacuation of subglottic secretions before they are allowed to reach the lungs.

A lumen positioned at the ventral side of the tube, serving as a CO2 monitoring lumen, which is also utilized for venting the subglottic volume and for saline rinsing during suction.
