Using a Masterflex Pump to Manufacture Soap
Suppose you need to pump paraffin at up to 500 ml/min at 200°F to make soap? At this temperature, the viscosity is approximately 1500 cps. One manufacturer brought this challenge to Cole-Parmer.
The wax in the manufacturer’s process was being gravity fed out of a tank into the pump and dispensed into a mixing tank at atmospheric pressure. He needed to have digital control of the addition process to ensure repeatability between batches.
Our tech experts responded with guidance that would allow the manufacturer simple clean up (by throwing away the tubing) and ensure the heated wax wouldn’t cool or clog his equipment.
We recommended the Masterflex® I/P® modular digital dispensing drive for programmable digital control and exceptional accuracy. Because the producer was changing the tubing two to three times a day, we suggested an Easy-Load pump head, along withperoxide-cured silicone tubing that works well with the required temperature range.
