Spectralink Versity Smartphones Designed for Hospital Use

Smartphones have become commonly used tools in modern hospitals, connecting clinicians to in-house electronic medical records, providing research capabilities, and even functioning as the core components of medical tools such as ophthalmoscopes, stethoscopes, and even therapeutic devices. Yet, smartphones are designed for consumers and often lack features important when used in medicine.

Spectralink, a company out of Boulder, Colorado, is releasing a new line of Smartphones designed specifically for use in healthcare. The Spectralink Versity phones are resistant to water and chemicals (IP-68 rated), so blood and other liquid contaminants can be washed off, preventing the spread of infections. Hot swappable battery technology allows the user to remove a battery running low and replace it with a fresh one without having to reboot the phone.

Echo cancellation, noise suppression, and a few other sound boosting technologies let the user hear well in noisy environments and to use the speakerphone without having strange noises periodically coming through.

The devices run the latest Oreo Android operating system, features security features to guarantee patient confidentiality, and has built-in software to seamlessly integrate them with in-hospital electronic medical record systems.
