Luma’s illuvinate Now Available for Drug-Free Plaque Psoriasis Treatment at Home
Patients who are prescribed the system, either by their dermatologist or through Luma’s telemedicine partner, are expected to use the device once a day on their inflamed problem spots. The system works to limit inflammation, rebuild healthy cellular structure, and hydrate the skin so it’s nice and healthy.
“Psoriasis is a chronic condition for which there is no cure, and there is a need for better treatment options. Most available treatments require ongoing compliance in order to achieve optimal results, and many patients are hesitant to consistently use medications, which may have long-term side effects, ” in a released statement said Dr. Jeffrey Sugarman, M.D., Ph.D., of Redwood Family Dermatology in Santa Rosa, Calif., and UCSF Health. “As a result, patients become discouraged and stop seeking treatment from a dermatologist. I believe that the illuvinate System will be a great option for many patients.”
The product is a “redesign” of a century-old Goeckerman Regimen, which is only available in specialized centers and requires a good deal of commitment from patients. The FDA-cleared illuvinate system can be used at home and doesn’t require any drugs, something a lot of patients with plaque psoriasis tend to stay away from.
