Whetting the appetite for a new smile

Out in March 2020: IvoSmile® Orthodontics – the new app for orthodontic practices from Ivoclar Vivadent. Designed to be used in combination with the 3Shape TRIOS® Treatment Simulator (TTS) from 3Shape exclusively, the app shows patients the potential outcome of an orthodontic treatment in a virtual mirror. In just a few minutes, patients are given a fantastic tool for their decision-making process, at no obligation.

Mirror, mirror on the wall...

Patients can see a virtual image of their face on the iPad and view the proposed treatment outcome in a realistic simulation. They can smile and talk and move their head freely from side to side to view themselves from all angles. They look at an improved version of themselves – after an orthodontic correction of their malocclusion. With these realistic simulations in mind, patients are in a position to base their decision on a tangible treatment goal rather than a theoretical proposal. To provide patients with these visualizations, orthodontists use IvoSmile Orthodontics – an innovative app equipped with augmented reality technology: The iPad camera captures the patient’s face and displays it in real time on the screen so that all movements of the face are interactively shown. The enhanced representation of the face is achieved with the help of the software, which overlays the existing jaw situation with teeth in a computer-generated optimal position. Communication clearly revolves around the patient’s potential for dental improvement, with information about time and cost receding into the background.

Using the app is easy

Using the TRIOS Treatment Simulator app, which is included in the 3Shape TRIOS 3 and TRIOS 4 intraoral scanners, enables orthodontists to simulate the orthodontic treatment outcome and then the simulation is sent and automatically loaded into the IvoSmile® Orthodontics app via the 3Shape Communicate™ portal – and, hey presto, the virtual mirror is ready for viewing. To run the app, an iPad from 2015 and iOS 12 or higher is required.
